Kannur: Internal feud in the Congress party in Kerala is back in the limelight as KPCC president K Sudhakaran and party veteran KC Joseph are making statements against each other.

KC Joseph came out against Sudhakaran’s claim that the former's stand regarding the meeting of BJP leaders with church authorities was “immature”.  Joseph said that he had not made any immature statement, but pointed out that the Congress should consider BJP’s exchanges with church authorities as a forewarning for the party. KC Joseph warned that the recent political developments are likely to adversely affect Congress and hence the party has to make its ties strong with all the communities in the state.

"I don't know why Sudhakaran termed it immature," he pointed out.

However, he appreciated Sudhakaran for meeting Thalassery Archdiocese Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany. KC Joseph also said that the absence of Oommen Chandy from mainstream politics is affecting the Congress party here.

Earlier, KC Joseph forwarded a letter to the Congress leadership urging the party to hold meetings with the church authorities in the state on account of the BJP’s recent interaction with the Christian communities in Kerala. KC Joseph also asked to convene the political affairs committee meeting of Congress in line with the demand already put forward by party veterans  Ramesh Chennithala and K Muraleedharan.

When asked about KC Jospeh's letter and his stand on BJP's minority outreach programme and the ongoing visit of party leaders in the Christian houses, Sudhakaran the other day said that BJP was not going to gain anything through this. CPM wants to label that the Christian community favours BJP. “The intention is to consolidate Muslim votes over that narrative,” he alleged. He also said that KC Joseph's stand was immature and hinted that it will only give a mileage to BJP.
