Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Congress (B) expressed its opposition to the party chairperson and sole MLA K.B. Ganesh Kumar joining the state cabinet as the Transport Minister.
Even though the second Pinarayi government is approaching its 2.5-year anniversary in office, no formal discussions were held regarding Ganesh's induction into the state cabinet. At this point, the Kerala Congress (B) has decided not to take the office of Transport Minister if it is offered. The party is expected to seek another portfolio.
According to a coalition agreement in the LDF, parties having a single MLA should share cabinet posts with a 2.5-year term. Therefore, a cabinet minister post should be shared by Kerala Congress (B), Janadhipathya Kerala Congress, Congress (S) and Indian National League.
Therefore, INL's Ahamed Devarkovil, the incumbent Port Minister, will hand over his portfolio to Kadannappalli Ramachandran of Congress (S). Similarly, Janadhipathya Kerala Congress's Antony Raju will have to hand over his ministerial post to Ganesh Kumar.
