Kattappana: Police have set out to solve the mystery surrounding the double murder in Kattappana. Cops accompanied by a team of forensic experts arrived at the house in Kanchiyar where the dead body of Vijayan, Vishnu’s father, is believed to be buried. Accused Nitheesh has been brought to the crime scene.
Officials have begun procedures to retrieve the skeletal remains of Vijayan whose body was buried under the floor of the house. Media entry is restricted.
A few days back, Nitheesh and his friend Vishnu Vijayan (29) were taken into custody in relation to a theft case in Kattappana town. During questioning, the accused revealed that they killed Vishnu's father, Vijayan, and his sister's newborn and buried the bodies.
While Nitheesh admitted to causing the infant's death by choking with a pillow, Vijayan met his end with a fatal blow from a hammer.
The probe is ongoing to examine the human sacrifice angle in the murders.
It is believed that the 4-day-old baby was killed-as an offering to ‘Gandharva’. The baby is said to be buried under a property in Sagara Junction. The incidents happened a few years ago. As per the reports, the baby was born to Nitheesh in his relation with Vishnu’s sister.
Vishnu’s family had shifted to their current rented house in Kanchiyar after the incident.
As per the confessions of the accused, Vijayan was killed months ago. His body was buried in the house in Kanchiyar by digging the floor.
The police are currently trying to exhume the skeletal remains of Vijayan. They will conduct an investigation at the house in Sagara Junction as well. Since the baby was buried in 2016, it is highly unlikely to obtain the remains.
Murder charges have been slapped on Nitheesh, a suspected black magician. Vishnu and his mother Suma have also been included in the accused list. Police have recorded statements of Vishnu’s sister as well.
Nitheesh, who is suspected to be involved in witchcraft, was sent to police custody till 1:30 PM today by the Kattappana court. He is known to have confessed to the crimes during interrogation. Vishnu who was injured amidst robbery is currently undergoing treatment.
Nitheesh and Vishnu were taken into custody on March 2 while they were trying to rob a workshop in Kattappana in the wee hours. They were caught red handed by the son of the workshop owner.
