Kasargod’s long-awaited dream of a medical college has finally turned into reality as Gurvinder Singh from Rajasthan becomes the first student of the newly approved Govt. Medical College, marking the beginning of MBBS courses in the district.

Badiyadka (Kerala): The long-cherished dream of Kasargod to have its own medical college has finally begun to take shape. The first student of the inaugural batch has arrived at Kasargod Government Medical College, marking a historic moment for the district.
Gurvinder Singh, hailing from Alwar in Rajasthan, has secured admission under the All-India Quota and officially became the first student of the new college at Ukkinadka of Badiyadka. He is the first among the seven students allotted under this quota.
The college recently received recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC), enabling it to admit students for MBBS. A team led by Principal-in-charge Dr Santosh Kumar and Medical Superintendent Dr Praveen greeted Gurvinder with sweets before registering his attendance.
Kasargod Medical College has a total intake of 50 MBBS seats. Apart from the All-India Quota, admissions for the remaining seats will be finalised through the second and third rounds of counselling. Classes will begin once all students report.
During the first round of allotment, the college was still awaiting NMC approval. Temporary hostel facilities have been arranged for students, and preparations to fully equip the medical college are in the final stages.
