Recounting is underway in the Bekal and Puthige divisions of the Kasaragod district panchayat polls after the UDF and BJP filed complaints over narrow margins.

Kasaragod: In the Kasaragod district panchayat elections, complaints seeking a recount were filed by the UDF and the BJP in the Bekal and Puthige divisions. Recounting is currently underway at Kanhangad Durga Higher Secondary School.
The recount was triggered after the LDF candidate won the Bekal division by a narrow margin of 257 votes. At present, the district panchayat has nine seats held by the LDF, eight by the UDF, and one by the NDA.
Puthige, considered an NDA stronghold, saw the UDF candidate emerge on top, prompting the NDA to request a recount citing a discrepancy of 468 votes.
The District Collector is overseeing the recounting process.
