Thiruvananthapuram: The statement against MLA Karat Razak and Karat Faisal in connection with the gold smuggling case has come to light. The statement given by key accused Sandeep Nair's wife Soumya that Ramees smuggled gold for Razak and Faisal has been disclosed.

Earlier, the probe team had interrogated Karat Faisal. The Customs quizzed Sandeep's wife on July 8. It was found out that Soumya was fully aware of the gold smuggling carried out by Sandeep, Sarith and Ramees with the help of Swapna Suresh.

Soumya also stated that Sandeep tortured her physically when she opposed gold smuggling. She also revealed that Ramees was smuggling gold for Karat Razak and Faisal in Koduvally. Swapna also helps them with gold smuggling. The Customs also came to know that the diplomatic baggage was brought to Sandeep's house to take gold from it.

The Customs has submitted a report to the Economic Intelligence Bureau pointing out that releasing Swapna will cause a financial threat to the country. Soumya's statement is included in this report. On the basis of this report, the Economic Intelligence Bureau ordered to keep Swapna in preventive detention.
