At the State Youth Festival, the twins Hrishikesh Sabu and Devananda Sabu won two A grades each. Their parents, Sabu and Namitha of Kannur Onden Road, MJS House, were elated with the news.
Hrishikesh, the tenth grade student at Kannur St Michael's HSS got an A grade in Panchavadyam and Vrindavadyam. The captain of both teams, Hrishikesh performed Maddalam in Panchavadyam and chenda and doll drum in Vrindavadyam.
Devananda scored A grades for her performances in Instrumental Band and Kadhaprasangam. Her School, Kannur St Theresa's AIHSS introduced the instrument side drum with Tamporin this time. The tenth-grade student Deva Nanda was trained to perform the instrument.
In the Kadhaprasangam Competition, Devananda performed Tabla. The twins have been trained by Ustad Hari Bhai of Kannur Kalakshetra for the last 10 years.
Sabu, their father won the mimicry competition at the 1995-96 University Youth Festival. He has also been marked the winner in the mimicry competition at Keralolsavam, at the State level in 2001.
