Kozhikode: The explosion at a religious conference in Kalamassery on Sunday morning triggered disinformation and hate speeches targeting the state and religious groups. Social media platforms like Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) are swamped with fake news and assumptions.
Several posts appeared on X, blaming the LDF government and religious groups in the state for the current events. Though there has been no official confirmation of a terror attack in the incident, several social media posts suggest the bombing was triggered by the Palestine-Israel conflict.
Meanwhile, Kerala DGP Shaik Darves urged people to maintain peace and remain calm and asked them not to spread provocative or hate messages on social media.
Spreading of provocative or hate messages on social media would invite strict action, DGP warned.
Similarly, Kerala Police in a communique informed that they are surveilling social media platforms and action will be taken against those spreading communal spins, hate speeches, and fake news related to the explosion.
The explosion, which took place at Zamra International Convention in Kalamassery around 9:40 a.m., left one person dead and several others injured. They have been admitted to Kalamassery Medical College Hospital and other nearby private hospitals. The identity of the deceased woman is yet to be known.
