Kalamassery: Kochi resident Martin Dominic had carefully devised a plan to trigger explosions during the regional conference of Jehovah's Witnesses in Kalamassery on Sunday.
Dominic revealed to the police during questioning the techniques he used to create improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and execute his plan.
In addition, the evidence provided by Dominic, including receipts for the purchase of raw materials used in making IEDs, assisted the police in piecing together the sequence of events.
- Dominic bought explosives he used in IEDs from a firecracker dealer in Tripunithura.
- On Sunday morning, he left his house at around 5 a.m. He told his wife that he was going to see a friend. The CCTV footage from the locality shows Dominic leaving on his scooter and carrying shopping bags. He also bought petrol from a nearby pump and used it as part of the IEDs.
- He reached the convention centre at around 7: 30 a.m. At that time, only three people were present inside the hall. However, it would only take him half an hour to reach the centre. The police are investigating why he took so long to arrive at the venue. It is suspected that he might have gone to his house in Athani in Aluva and assembled the IEDs before arriving at Kalamassery.
- After entering the venue hall, he placed the shopping bags at four different spots. He went outside, returned when the event began, and sat in the last row.
- When the prayers began inside the hall, he used the remote to detonate the IEDs. Dominic also used his mobile phone to record the explosions before leaving the premises.
- He rode his scooter to Aluva, Nedumbassery, before arriving in Koratty around 10:45 a.m. Meanwhile, he also recorded the video in a hotel room, confessing to the crime, and posted it on Facebook. Eventually, he surrendered before the Kodakara Police.
