Kochi: The investigation against K Vidya, a PhD scholar and former SFI leader who is alleged to have forged documents in order to obtain the position of a guest lecturer, is at a standstill. The syndicate legal standing committee that was appointed to carry out the probe held meetings only once and has not inspected any files related to the case.

Apparently, none of the members of the committee are aware of its next meeting. K Premkumar MLA is the convener of the committee. Meanwhile, the Registrar of the University has filed an affidavit in the Kerala High Court stating there was no defect in Vidya’s PhD admission.

Vidya’s admission controversy at Kalady Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University sprang up again after reports about document forgery emerged. A complaint in this regard was lodged by an SC-ST student K Dinu, who was included in the admission rank list.

Three years back, the SC-ST commission of the university had found that Vidya was admitted after subverting the SC reservation. Nevertheless, the university appointed an inquiry committee as if it was a new controversy without taking any action on the pending report.

Further, Bichu X Malayil, the research guide of PhD scholar Vidya, also decided to step back from the academic association with the latter. According to Malayil, she will not guide Vidya until the latter proves her innocence.

Subsequently, the legal standing committee was assigned on June 8 to probe into the matter. The committee's first meeting took place on June 17. However, no further progress or action took place in this regard.
