
Kochi: Justice V.P. Mohan Kumar, former Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court and a member of the State Human Rights Commission, passed away. He was 84.
He died at his residence in Panampilly Nagar, Kochi, at around 5 p.m. on Sunday. The cremation will take place at 3 p.m. at the Ravipuram crematorium.

Justice Kumar led the commission investigating the tragic Kalluvathukkal Hooch tragedy. Appointed as a judge of the Kerala High Court in 1993, he later served in the Karnataka High Court from January 1994 before returning to the Kerala High Court in 2001. Justice Kumar was appointed Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court in May 2002 and held the position until his retirement on June 7 of that year. Following his retirement, he took charge of the Call and Transformer Commission in Karnataka.
He is survived by his wife, Omana Mohan Kumar, and their children, Dr. Sangeeta Mohan Kumar, based in the USA, and Adv. Jayesh Mohankumar (Kerala High Court).
