New Delhi: The petitions filed in the Supreme Court concerning the actress attack case of 2017 were assigned to a bench headed by Justice Dinesh Maheshwari. Chief Justice UU Lalit recommended listing the petitions before Justice Dinesh Maheswari after Justice AM Khanwilkar, who initially considered the petitions, retired from service.
Justice Dinesh Maheswari was a part of the bench headed by Justice Khanwilkar, which ordered the trial in the actress attack case must be finished within six months on November 29, 2019.
Meanwhile, the judge of the trial court, Justice Honey M Varghese approached the apex court demanding more time to complete the trial procedures. It is learnt that the judge asked for a period of six months to complete the trial. The Supreme Court will consider this plea on Monday.
The supreme court will also consider a petition filed by actor Dileep requesting to speed up trial proceedings. Further, the actor also requested the court to restrict the rehearing of witnesses in the case.
