Thrissur: DCC president Jose Valloor has resigned from his post following the party leadership’s order. Additionally, UDF district chairman MP Vincent has also announced his resignation. Both the leaders came to the party office and addressed the workers before announcing their resignations. Jose Valloor has taken responsibility for K Muraleedharan's Lok Sabha defeat, while Vincent has taken responsibility for the Thrissur DCC clash.

Valloor was accompanied by a few party workers who supported him and wished him luck. On the other hand, the group present in the DCC office also included a group of Congress councilors who were against him. Despite the differing opinions and a mild chaos ensuing, it did not end up in a clash. Police were already deployed at the location in anticipation of a potential clash. Following the resignations, workers started chanting slogans.

Party leadership had earlier demanded DCC president Jose Valloor and UDF district chairman MP Vincent to resign and had also informed them of AICC's order.

Meanwhile, Palakkad MP V  K Sreekandan has been temporarily appointed as the DCC president.

Valloor was previously summoned by the Congress leadership to Delhi. He gave an explanation on the KSU clash, alleging that the attack was instigated under the influence of alcohol and by the leadership of DCC secretary Sajeevan Kuriachira. He claimed that Sajeevan had assaulted the KSU leader and the social media coordinator without any provocation, and presented CCTV footage to support his claims.

The clash arose on Friday due to a poster put up by Youth Congress activists on the DCC walls, against party president Jose Valloor and T N Prathapan. The disagreement started with the claim that the poster was displayed with the knowledge of Sajeevan Kuriachira.

DCC secretary and a few activists were standing on the ground floor of the building when Jose Valloor arrived and soon the clash occurred. Sajeevan allegedly started attacking those who identified themselves as followers of Muralidharan. The widely shared clash footage has caused embarrassment to the Congress leadership, despite the party's significant victory in Kerala.
