Kozhikode: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has decided not to participate in the pro-Palestine rally organised by the CPM. The official announcement was made by IUML National General Secretary PK Kunhalikutty in a press conference on Saturday. The league extended its support to the solidarity rally but noted that it cannot "technically" participate in it because of its association with the UDF. Kunhalikutty also added that such a righteous cause should be taken by all parties.
Congress leaders had expressed their concerns that the League seemed to be in talks to move closer to CPM and this would undoubtedly cause a rift in the front’s relationship. League leaders also felt that participating in the rally would cause confusion in the UDF.
The League leadership decided to stay away from the rally in this circumstance because IUML state president Panakkad Syed Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal also said that such voices would harm the unified face of the front.
CPM’s solidarity rally is scheduled to take place on November 11.
