Kochi: A police case was registered against Twenty20 chief coordinator Sabu M Jacob for allegedly making insulting remarks about Kunnathunad MLA and CPM leader PV Sreenijin. Sabu has been booked for offences under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The police registered the case based on a complaint lodged by a CPM activist Sruthy Sreenivasan. According to the complaint, Sabu in a public function made insulting remarks on MLA. The function in question is Twenty20’s Lok Sabha-election special grand conference held at Kolenchery here the other day.

It may be noted that Sabu was booked in a similar case in 2022. The case was against alleged caste abuse and social boycotting against the Dalit MLA. According to the case filed by Sreenijin, Twenty20 members stepped down from the dais when he was there to attend a public conference at Aikaranad panchayat. Apart from that Twenty20 members including Sabu made defamatory remarks against him in public functions, the complaint pointed out.

Meanwhile, Sabu refuted that he has never shared a stage with Sreenijin, ever since the latter became MLA. He challenged Sreenijin to cite the incidents in which he had insulted him. Sabu termed the case as a political witch-hunt. In the same year, Sabu alleged Sreenijin’s role in the death of Twenty20 Dalit activist CK Deepu.
