According to a report by The Hindu, the Save University Campaign Committee (SUCC) has petitioned the Chief Minister and Home Minister to freeze the appointment and order a comprehensive investigation. SUCC chairperson R.S. Sasikumar alleged that the top rank was awarded to Jithin K.J., a former Students’ Federation of India (SFI) leader, despite his failure to secure a spot on the main rank list for police constables. The committee questioned how Jithin, who holds a BCom degree, surpassed candidates with higher academic qualifications and experienced government employees, including sub-inspectors, auditors, and university and High Court assistants.

Additionally, the complaint highlighted concerns regarding Jithin's background, citing pending criminal cases against him, including alleged assaults on college principals in Ernakulam and a drunk driving incident.

The selection process—initiated in September 2025—drew nearly 17,000 applicants. Following a written exam in December 2025, physical efficiency tests in March 2026, and interviews for 35 candidates in April, the final rank list was released on May 6, 2026. Although the PSC has issued an advice memo to Jithin, he has not yet received security clearance for police training.

The dispute carries significant weight as this marks the first direct recruitment to the Dy.SP cadre since 1983.
