Kottayam: In a major development concerning the controversy over EP Jayarajan’s purported autobiography Kattan Chayayum Parippu Vadayum, Ravi DC, CEO of DC Books, has given a statement to the police confirming that there is no written agreement between DC Books and EP Jayarajan regarding the publication of the book. He said that the only communication between them was oral.
This statement supports EP Jayarajan’s position, as he has repeatedly asserted since the controversy began that there was no formal agreement with DC Books about publishing the book.
On Monday, Ravi DC failed to produce any documents that would establish the existence of an agreement between the publisher and the author. He also claimed he had no knowledge of how a 170-page PDF of the book was leaked or how a Facebook post announcing the release of the book appeared.
Excerpts from EP Jayarajan’s purported autobiography were leaked on the day of the Chelakkara by-election. The leaked posts included the cover page of the book, titled Kattan Chayayum Parippu Vadayum - Oru Communistinte Jeevitham. The leaked portions of the book featured harsh criticisms of the government, which caused embarrassment to both the party and EP Jayarajan.
It is reported that a detailed investigation will be launched soon, as there is no legal agreement between the author and the publisher. Potential charges such as the fabrication of fake documents, conspiracy to defame a public figure, and violation of intellectual property rights could be investigated.
Kottayam DySP KG Aneesh recorded Ravi DC’s statement on Monday. Ravi DC has refused to speak to the media regarding the controversy.
