Thiruvananthapuram: Suspicions are afloat that a huge nexus is operating behind the recent VSSC exam cheating incident. It is suspected that the same gang was also involved in the defense examination held in Chennai last year. Cooperation will be sought from the Haryana and Chennai police to uncover more facts of this nexus.

It is believed that the three devices seized during the exam were locally manufactured. The equipment seems to be well-worn out. Whether or not these were used earlier remains a suspicion.

The individuals who appeared for the exam instead of the actual candidates came to the state capital after receiving a lump sum. They arrived by flight and along with their assistants, stayed in a hotel, preparing for the exam. They made use of specially-designed equipment and specifically sewn shirts to accomplish the mission.

A designated call center is also suspected to have played a part. The arrested persons speak regional Hindi. Officials point out that this language barrier and the deliberate providing of incorrect information has put police in jeopardy. State police will reportedly be going to Haryana to collect more information.

The scammers identified candidates who applied for the exam and promised them their services. It is also suspected that agents of this nexus are operating from areas in and around Haryana.

Since this seems to be a scam happening at a national level, a detailed investigation will be carried out, says City Police Commissioner, C Nagaraju. The exam on Sunday was for the posts of Technician, Draftsman and Radiographer with VSSC incharge of carrying out the tests. The invigilators were the teachers of the respective schools which were centers for the examination. VSSC officials supervised the tests. It was on the basis of some confidential information that the officials were able to apprehend the fraudsters.
