Kochi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall across Kerala as a result of low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. According to IMD, intense rain is expected to persist over the next two days, with orange and yellow alerts issued for multiple districts.

Orange Alert (12 Dec): Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur

Yellow Alert (12 Dec): Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad

The low-pressure system, currently well-marked and situated over the southwest Bay of Bengal, is likely to move west-northwest toward the Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coasts within the next 24 hours. An associated upper-air cyclonic circulation extending to mid-tropospheric levels is also contributing to the weather conditions.

Residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions as the state braces for potential heavy downpours.
