
Kochi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday forecast heavy rainfall in Kerala over the next two days. The department has also issued a red alert for Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki districts on Thursday.
An orange alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Thrissur districts, while a yellow alert is in place for Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts.
Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta districts on Friday. A yellow alert is sounded in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki districts.
Heavy rainfall is expected for a short period of time, which could lead to landslides and flash floods. There is also a possibility of waterlogging in urban areas and generally low-lying regions. Continued rainfall could result in landslides and mudslides as well. The public and government authorities are advised to remain highly alert, as per the warning.
