Vaikom: A video has surfaced in which Thalayazham native Makkan Chellappan, who was found hanging at the LDF election committee office, makes serious allegations against the party. The 67-year-old farmer and CPI supporter was found dead on Tuesday at the election committee office set up in front of the CPI local committee office in Thalayazham.

In a video he posted on Facebook two days before his death, Chellappan raises grave accusations against the CPI in Vaikom and its workers. He states that if anything happens to him before or after the elections, the CPI in Vaikom should be held fully responsible. He also claims he is “100 percent sure” that CPI members would eliminate him.

In the 25-minute video, he details alleged political harassment. He accuses CPI leaders of repeatedly trying to destroy his agricultural research and nursery. Crops in Venthakarayil and Karappuram were allegedly cut down multiple times. He says politicians spread false claims that he himself destroyed his crops to fraudulently claim insurance.

He also noted that a hunger strike he held in 2010 in front of the Vaikom taluk office over a walkway dispute deepened hostility from the CPI. Following this, he alleges that a fence was erected blocking access to his house, and even a toilet was constructed to create obstruction.

Unable to endure the harassment, Chellappan says he even considered killing his family and then taking his own life. He later moved with his family to Palani in Tamil Nadu.

He further claims that he did not receive justice despite approaching Agriculture Minister P Prasad and the Home Department. He alleges that authorities refused to support his offer to provide saplings at ₹1 instead of the government-fixed ₹3. According to him, politicians and officials are driven not by development but by commissions. He also accuses them of deliberately delaying projects and licenses he deserved.

In the video, Chellappan makes a serious allegation that CPI leaders were conspiring to eliminate him, reiterating that if anything happens to him, the CPI leaders in Vaikom should be held fully responsible.
