Thiruvananthapuram: A preliminary investigation has been initiated against IAS officer K Gopalakrishnan over allegations of forming a religion-based WhatsApp group. The inquiry is being led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of the Thiruvananthapuram City Narcotics Cell.

According to the police, if the preliminary investigation establishes any form of criminal activity related to the creation of the WhatsApp group, a case will be registered, and further action will follow. 

The police had earlier sought legal advice on whether an investigation against Gopalakrishnan could proceed in connection with the incident. They have now received a recommendation to proceed with the inquiry.

However, there is some uncertainty regarding the registration of a case. For the time being, the authorities have decided to conduct a preliminary investigation first and then consider filing a case based on its findings.
