Kozhikode: Kerala needs to ponder over the status of SMART Policing and human rights, said Kerala State Human Rights Commission chairperson Justice Antony Dominic.
“According to the latest survey done by Indian Police Foundation (IFP) evaluating SMART Policing mandates announced by Prime Minister in 2014, Kerala has been ranked in the fourth position. We have to assess why the state despite its accolades in education sector was ranked below Andhra Pradesh and Telangana,” he said.
Justice Antony Dominic was addressing the gathering at Kozhikode Police Training Centre in the meeting organized by the Commission to commemorate Human Rights Day on December 10.
He added that in spite of discussions on the topic human rights, the state has not achieved anything remarkable. “Still jails and government offices are places where human rights are violated,” he pointed out.
The event was presided by Commission member K Bijunath. Apart from him Commision member VK Beenakumari, sub-collector V Chelsa Sini, director general of investigation Tomin J Thachankkery, Dr Arsu, DCP Spinil Mahajan, Commission secretary T Vijayakumar and GS Asha addressed the gathering during the event.
