New Delhi: The Supreme Court has raised questions on how the medical report in the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case against actor Koottikal Jayachandran can be disregarded. 

The state government has opposed Jayachandran's request for anticipatory bail in the Supreme Court. However, the Court has extended the interim protection granted to him until March 24.

Jayachandran had approached the Supreme Court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with a case involving the molestation of a four-year-old girl. He claimed that family issues were behind the allegations made against him. 

In contrast, the state government informed the Court that the child had described the sexual abuse she endured in statements given to both the Kozhikode Judicial Magistrate Court and the doctor who treated her.

The Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices B.V. Nagaratna and Satish Chandra Sharma, questioned how the details of the abuse outlined in the medical report could be overlooked.

The Court has allowed all parties involved to respond to the affidavit filed by the state government. The interim protection granted to Jayachandran will remain in effect until the case is heard on March 24. 

Senior advocates R. Basant and A. Karthik represented Jayachandran, while Senior Advocate Jayant Muthuraj and Standing Counsel Nishe Rajan Shonkar appeared for the state government.
