
Thiruvananthapuram: Horticorp has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a committee comprising farmers' representatives to bring vegetables from farmers in Tenkasi. Horticorp will get vegetables at wholesale prices as decided by the Tamil Nadu Agri Marketing and Horticulture Department.
Horticorp can now procure graded vegetables from seven agricultural producer groups from Tenkasi district. The aim is to bring quality vegetables to Kerala without middlemen interference. In the first phase, lady’s finger, green chillies, brinjal, tomato and drumstick is expected to be procured.
Vegetables will be procured from Tamil Nadu temporarily for 11 months. With the availability of vegetables from Kerala, procurement from Tamil Nadu will be reduced slowly. Horticorp will pay the handling cost at the rate of Re 1. The committee will collect vegetables as requested by Horticorp on the previous day. The next day, Horticorp will ensure the quality of vegetables and bring it to Kerala the next day.
