Payyoli: Vehicles plying on the roads often tend to ignore the instructions of the home guards who will be regulating the traffic. But, a female home guard officer in Payyoli has gone the extra mile and put in a brave effort, in a bid to stop an inter-state truck that was trying to speed past her violating traffic rules.

Nisha Gireesh, a homeguard in Vadakara police, jumped in front of a truck on the national highway stretch in Payyoli, putting her life at risk. The incident happened around 7:30 PM yesterday. Her bravery has won her accolades.

Nisha had served as head constable in the CRPF for 22 years. She is a councillor in the Payyoli Municipality.

The incident goes like this.

A truck driven by an Andhra native was speeding on the NH stretch (bottleneck), however 100 metres ahead of the Moorad bridge, the driver could see heavy vehicles being parked alongside the road, however he did not bother to stop and tried to overtake vehicles ahead of him. The driver chose to ignore Nisha’s instructions. But much to his surprise, Nisha jumped in front of the truck and signalled the driver with her hand to stop the vehicle immediately. But the driver was in no mood to listen, he kept driving the vehicle ahead against Nisha. The brave woman was never ready to give up, in between the efforts, she tripped on a stone and fell on the road, but she got up without wasting time and hurled the same stone at the truck glass breaking it instantly. The miffed driver accelerated the vehicle as if he had his mind fixed on mowing down the officer. Nisha was a real brave heart. In an act of self defence, she grabbed another stone and threw it at the truck for a second time breaking its remaining glass.

Hearing the sounds, locals gathered at the place and blocked the truck. The truck which was moved to the station was later on released after levying fine on the driver. In a similar incident, a private bus had sped past Nisha yesterday. The bus was identified as Raihan bus from Kozhikode. The bus was later on stopped by the Vadakara police.
