Kochi: Kerala High Court has criticised National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) regarding the stalling of Kuthiran tunnel construction. The court stated that the public is suffering due to lack of diligence from NHAI and asked them if they intend to complete the construction works. NHAI told the court that the work got delayed owing to protests from both ruling party and the opposition.
The Court made the observation while considering the petition which stated that the tunnel construction is moving at a snail’s pace. The court also pointed out that the delay in completing the construction has caused traffic congestion and difficulties to the public.
Currently, the construction works have been stalled due to disputes with the contractors. The financial issues of the contractor and protests by the ruling and opposition parties also added to the delay.
The court has instructed NHAI to file an affidavit explaining the follow up action in detail. The affidavit will be filed on Wednesday. The detailed hearing on the case will also take place on that day.
