Persistent heavy rainfall in Kerala leads district collectors to declare a holiday for educational institutions

Thiruvananthapuram: Owing to persistent heavy rainfall in the state, district collectors have declared a holiday for educational institutions across several Kerala districts on Monday, May 26.
The districts affected include Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Idukki, and Pathanamthitta. The decision follows the issuance of red alerts by the meteorological department in these areas.
Kasaragod
Due to intense and continuing rains, Kasaragod district collector announced a holiday for all educational institutions, tuition centres, anganwadis, and madrasas on May 26 as a precautionary measure. However, there will be no changes to previously scheduled examinations. The India Meteorological Department has declared a red alert for Kasaragod district for May 26. Most parts of the district have recorded very heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours.
Kannur
In view of the red alert and continuing heavy rains, the Kannur district collector has ordered that anganwadis, madrasas, tuition centres, and special classes remain closed on Monday, May 26.
Wayanad
Wayanad district also faces a red alert along with intense rainfall. Consequently, a holiday has been declared for all educational institutions, anganwadis, madrasas, special classes, and tuition centres on May 26. University and Public Service Commission (PSC) examinations will not be affected.
Kozhikode
The Kozhikode district collector informed that, with a red alert in place for May 26, schools will remain closed.
Malappuram
Due to heavy rains and a red alert on May 26, Malappuram district collector declared a holiday for all educational institutions including madrasas and tuition centres. Examinations and residential educational institutions are exempt from this holiday.
Thrissur
In Thrissur district, ongoing heavy rainfall and a red alert have led the district collector to declare a holiday on May 26 for all anganwadis, nurseries, central schools, CBSE and ICSE schools, professional colleges, tuition centres, and madrasas. Pre-scheduled examinations and interviews will proceed as planned.
Ernakulam
Ernakulam district has been placed under a red alert due to heavy rainfall, prompting the district collector to announce a holiday on May 26 for all educational institutions including professional colleges and tuition centres.
Kottayam
With a red alert issued because of the likelihood of heavy rainfall, Kottayam district has declared a holiday on May 26 for professional colleges, educational institutions, anganwadis, holiday classes, cultural and sports training centres, and religious schools. Previously scheduled examinations remain unaffected.
Idukki
A red alert has been declared for Idukki district for May 26. As a result, all educational institutions including professional colleges and anganwadis will observe a holiday. Residential educational institutions will not be affected. No holiday classes are permitted during this period. Anganwadi teachers are advised to ensure children whose parents are at work are not left alone at home due to the holiday, following instructions from ICDS supervisors. Pre-scheduled examinations and interviews will continue as planned. Educational institution heads will arrange to compensate for any academic time lost.
Pathanamthitta
Due to heavy rainfall, a holiday has been declared on May 26 for all anganwadis, schools, professional colleges, and tuition centres.
