Pariyaram: Kerala health minister happened to see an incident at the Kannur Medical College on Tuesday that recites the plight of patients reaching there for treatment. Veena George, as part of inaugurating the revamp work, witnessed the ordeal of bystanders of a patient in critical condition who was rushed to the hospital in ambulance. The bystanders were in utter confusion as there was no trolley available to take the patient to the casualty.
Incidentally, during the inaugural speech, she urged the authorities to provide immediate attention to those rushing to the casualty. However, within moments after her speech she had to witness an incident that is antithetic to her expectations. The doctors who accompanied her had to call up and intervene to shift the person to casualty. Along with the minister, MLA M Vijin also witnessed the plight of the patient and his bystanders.
This is not the first time that something of this kind is happening in the medical college. Earlier too similar incidents were witnessed.
Meanwhile, after inaugurating the radiation unit, the health minister visited the casualty. She examined casualty registers and listened to the grievances of staff and doctors.
The minister directed the doctors to write generic name of the medicines while issuing prescription to the patients. She pointed out that though free medicines are provided, people are having trouble in getting them as doctors write brand name instead of generic name. The minister also directed to ensure availability of senior doctors in casualty.
