Kochi: For the first time in Kerala, a health 'ATM' was installed at Ernakulam General Hospital to bolster the in-house health check-ups without the constraints of time. Through the machine, the users can check their sugar, pressure as well as diagnose various ailments.

Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML) installed the machine at the hospital on a trial basis to strengthen the digitization of the health sector in the state.

It is also equipped with facilities for video conferencing with doctors at distant hospitals.

To check sugar, a blood sample collected on a strip should be submitted to the machine. After evaluation, the test results will be available within seconds. Numerous tests such as blood pressure, sugar, lipid profile and ECG can be performed at a Health 'ATM'. The machine can also be used for diagnosing typhoid, malaria and dengue.

These machines are run by health professionals or trained staff. It is expected that these health 'ATMs' could be made available at all primary health centres and hospitals in nearby future.
