Guruvayur: Krishnachandran Namboothiri (37) of Palakkad Koonathara Thiyyannoor Mana has been elected as the head priest of the Guruvayur temple for six months from April 1 onwards. Also, the government has nominated Dr VK Vijayan (a CPM member) and Chengara Surendran (CPI) to the Guruvayur Devaswom. Vijayan will soon take over as its chairman.
Krishnachandran Namboothiri is an employee of the Urban Bank in Ottapalam. He is the son of Thiyannoor Krishnan Namboothiri and Thottappaya Mana Devi Antharjanam. His wife is Soumya of Manthredath Mana in Lakkidi. Children: Krishnadeva, Devasree.
Dr VK Vijayan, who retired as a teacher from Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, is a Velur native. Three more members in the Dewaswom are yet to be appointed, including the staff representative. NCP has a representative in the Board. The other three are permanent members of the nine-member Board.
It is learned that the governing body will take charge soon.
