Kozhikode: Statements have been taken from three police officials in connection with the alleged security lapse while producing activist Grow Vasu at the Kunnamangalam magistrate court on Friday. As per the instructions given by city police commissioner Rajpal Meena, statements were collected from Kunnamangalam inspector, and from two senior civil police officials from Medical College station.
Deputy police commissioner K E Baiju recorded the statements of the police officials.
Earlier, top level police officers had submitted a report to the Home department stating that Grow Vasu was accompanied by his extreme left compatriots while walking out of the Kunnamangalam magistrate court last week.
The report also points out the security lapse on the side of the officials in allowing an individual under judicial custody to interact with the media; as per the protocol, the police officials were supposed to escort Grow Vasu directly into the police vehicle after the court procedures, without allowing any sort of interaction.
It should be noted that the remand of the former Naxalite leader Grow Vasu has been extended till August 25, after he had refused to pay the fine and put an end to the case registered against him.
The incident pertaining to Grow Vasu’s case happened in 2016, when the veteran Maoist leader and few others had gathered in front of the mortuary at the Kozhikode Medical College to protest the deaths of maoists Kuppuswamy alias Devarajan and Ajitha Paramesan alias Kaveri who were killed in an encounter, Vasu and company launched their protest when the dead bodies of the duo were brought to the hospital.
According to the top level police officers, it was a serious lapse on the side of the cops on duty to allow a person under judicial custody to interact with the media. Grow Vasu had used the opportunity to issue statements against the government, police and the court.
