
Thiruvananthapuram: The cabinet meeting convened on Thursday decided to provide land, a house and compensation amount to the children of the Neyyattinkara couple who died of burn injuries while issuing suicide threats to resist eviction.
Both children will be given Rs 5 lakhs each along with the land and house. An official announcement regarding this will be made on Thursday.
Government has also decided to take up the educational expenses of the younger child, Ranjith. Rajan threatened to immolate himself and his wife when police officers reached his house to evict them. However, the fire spread to the couple's body when one of the police officers tried to snatch the lighter out of Rajan’s hand.
Government decided to extend its support to the children after the incident caused outrage among local residents.
