The government aims to proactively manage supply chains and resource inventories to safeguard domestic stability amidst ongoing regional geopolitical instability.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lead a high-level session of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) at 11:30 a.m. Saturday to evaluate the defensive and logistical responses implemented by various government departments.
Following the CCS briefing, the prime minister will preside over the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) and a general cabinet assembly at Parliament House.
The meetings serve as a follow-up to a special CCS session held on April 1, where the administration deliberated on strategic initiatives necessitated by the intensifying conflict in West Asia. According to an official statement, the Cabinet Secretary reported on successful efforts to stabilise the supply of petroleum products—specifically LNG and LPG—and maintain a robust power grid.
Domestic Stability and Agriculture
During the proceedings, the prime minister conducted an assessment of essential resources for the general public. Central to the discussion was the domestic inventory of fertilisers. Officials reviewed the status of stocks to guarantee that the agricultural sector remains supported through both the Kharif and Rabi seasons.
The government noted that previous efforts to build significant fertiliser reserves would safeguard food security and ensure timely distribution to farmers. Leaders also discussed the exploration of alternative global suppliers to mitigate future shortages.
Economic and Energy Resilience
The geopolitical situation in West Asia deteriorated sharply following a joint U.S.-Israeli military operation on Feb. 28. The strike on Iranian soil resulted in the deaths of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking officials, triggering a forceful military retaliation from Tehran.
Recognising that the regional instability poses significant short-, medium-, and long-term risks to the global economy, the cabinet conducted a detailed analysis of the potential repercussions for India. The discussions focused on creating a multifaceted buffer for food, energy, and fuel security.
To prevent domestic electricity shortages, the committee determined that coal inventories at all national power plants remain at sufficient levels. The administration emphasised that these immediate and proactive counter-measures are designed to insulate the Indian economy from the volatile international energy market.
