Perambra: The state government has sought a report from officials regarding the regions in different districts that should be considered while reorganising the taluks in the state. As per the letter issued by the Land Revenue Commissioner, tehsildars should hand over the report concerned to district collectors. The tehsildar's report should contain information on the number of villages, population, and other dimensions, in the existing taluks. Along with this the officials shall also clearly state the requirement for the new taluks, and also propose the names of the villages to be considered, and should also include data regarding the population and other dimensions.
In the Kozhikode district, authorities are mulling to make Perambra and Kunnamangalam taluks. At present, there are four taluks in Kozhikode, namely Vadakara, Koyilandy, Thamarassery, and Kozhikode. The number of revenue villages in Kozhikode, Koyilandy, Vadakara, and Thamarassery taluks are are 39,31, 28, and 20, respectively.
The last taluk reorganisation in the state was done nine years ago. The Thamarassery taluk came into existence in January 2014. 12 panchayats that were a part of the Kozhikode and Koyilandy taluks were brought under Thamarassery for the same.
At present, the Kozhikode tehsildar has put forth a proposal for forming a new taluk, by including 15 villages from the Kunnamangalam. The authorities are suggesting to creation of a new taluk by including the nine villages in the Kunnamngalam assembly constituency, five villages in the Thiruvambady assembly constituency, and one village (Madavoor) in the Koduvally assembly constituency.
Meanwhile, a report regarding the taluk centred around Perambra was submitted almost four years ago. The tehsildar submitted a draft plan for creating the Perambra taluk by including 13 villages from the Koyilandy taluk and 5 villages from the Vadakara taluk. It was proposed to create the taluk by including Kayakkodi, Kuttyadi, Velam, Maruthonkara, and Kavilumpara villages from Vadakara taluk and Chempanoda, Chakkitapara, Koorachundu, Kayanna, Perambra, Menhaniam, Eravattur, Koothali, Changaroth, Paleri, Cheruvannur, Meppayur, and Nochad villages from Koyilandy taluk.
The new report is also expected to be along similar lines. If the proposal turns into a reality, it will really prove beneficial for the people residing in the eastern hilly regions.
