Thiruvananthapuram: The special team appointed to investigate the jailbreak of notorious convict Govindachamy will begin collecting evidence on Tuesday. The government-appointed committee will visit the jail on Tuesday and Wednesday. All employees have been instructed to be present. The committee consists of Justice C N Ramachandran and retired DGP Jacob Punnoose. It was appointed to investigate the jailbreak at a high-level meeting called by the Kerala Chief Minister.

Govindachamy's escape from the high-security jail in Kannur caused a huge controversy. Authorities became aware of the jailbreak only five hours later. During the morning inspection, Govindachamy was found missing from his cell.

Govindachamy, who had cut the jail's rod in the middle of the night, jumped over a 7.5 metre-high wall and escaped. It is also believed that the electric fencing did not function.

However, Govindachamy remained free for only a few hours. Some people recognised him and informed the police. He was later caught from Talap, two kilometres from Pallikunnu, where the prison is located, after hiding in an empty yard. When he realised the police were coming, Govindachamy ran and jumped into the well of the National Statistics Office. The police, who chased him, pulled him out of the well.
