Thiruvananthapuram: Coming down heavily on the SFI in the backdrop of the tragic ragging death of Sidharthan, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan alleged that the students union is working together with the banned outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) on the campuses.
On the incident in which Sidharthan, a second Bachelor of Veterinary Science student of Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Wayanad, was found hanging in his hostel bathroom following a mob trial and brutal torture, the Governor said, “It cannot be seen just as a ragging death. It’s a murder. It is stated in his postmortem report that he was starving for three days. What do we understand from this? The young man was denied food and thrashed to death. It cannot be believed that the college authorities had no idea about it. Their role is also suspected.”
The Governor added, “In each university, the SFI has turned a hostel into their headquarters. Even the college authorities are scared to go there. The SFI and the PFI are working together. As per the reports I received, such people are involved in the Wayanad incident also.”
Meanwhile, the Governor, also the Chancellor of the University, suspended the Veterinary University Vice-Chancellor.
Khan also said he had written a letter to the High Court seeking a judicial probe into the incident. He also said that the Kerala Police is efficient, however, they would not go against the ruling party.
