Neyyattinkara: The post-mortem of Gopan Swami’s body, recovered in a controversial ‘Samadhi’ state at Azhiyannur in Neyyattinkara, has been completed by the police. However, the cause of his death has not been determined yet.
Neyyattinkara SHO S B Praveen told the media that the cause of death will be clarified only after the internal organ examination results are received. The police further stated that they would need to question family members again.

Following reactions from family members and some organisations claiming no unnatural cause of death and suggesting the mystery had been cleared, the police provided their explanation.

"The police and district administration have followed legal procedures. A complaint was received about a missing person. We found the person’s body at the ‘Samadhi’ site. An inquest and post-mortem were conducted. Three types of tests are still pending. Only after receiving these results will we know whether it was a natural or unnatural death," said the Neyyattinkara Circle Inspector.

The police are investigating discrepancies in the statements made by the family members. The Circle Inspector also mentioned that statements from Gopan Swamy’s son and others are still to be taken.

The concrete slab of the crypt was opened by the police on Thursday morning as part of their ongoing investigation.

Last Thursday, the family had posted posters in the village claiming that Gopan Swami, popularly known as Maniyan, had attained ‘Samadhi’ at his residence, Siddhan Bhavan, at Azhiyannur. This led to the emergence of doubts regarding the cause of death among the villagers.
