
Kochi: An air passenger was detained after gold worth Rs 50 lakhs was recovered from his possession at Kochi airport, officials said on Sunday.
According to officials, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), Kochi recovered the gold concealed in cylindrical-shaped capsules from a passenger who arrived from Jeddah on Sunday.
"Based on profiling, officers of the AIU batch intercepted one passenger, who had arrived from Jeddah. During the examination of the passenger, four cylindrical shaped capsules, suspected to contain gold in compound form, totally weighing 1168 gms found concealed in the rectum were recovered and seized," Custom officials Cochin stated.
Custom officials further stated that one person named Shoukathali from Malappuram had been detained in the case.
Further investigation into the case is under process, officials added.
Earlier, today the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), Trichy seized gold worth Rs 1,08,10,800 extracted from paste-like materials concealed in shoes and underwear worn by children of a male passenger. (ANI)
