
Kochi: Customs officials seized 257 grams (over 30 sovereigns) of gold from a passenger arriving at Kochi International Airport from Dubai.
On Saturday, officers from the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) intercepted the passenger based on profiling at the exit gate. The individual, identified as Muhammed, hails from Muvattupuzha near Kochi.
Concealed gold
Upon inspecting his check-in baggage, Customs officials found three brown paper sheets suspected of containing gold in mixture form. The gold was concealed within the lining of the top and bottom covers of a dates packet and a toy packet, totaling 257 grams.
The Customs Department detained Muhammed for further investigation.
