Thiruvananthapuram: NORKA and one of the German government agencies will sign a memorandum of understanding that will open job opportunities for Malayali nurses in Germany. Federal Employment is an agency that has the permit to make foreign recruitments for the German healthcare sector and will be seen collaborating with NORKA.

The scheme is named ‘Triple Win’ and it is the first time a government agency is being part of such a scheme. There are nearly 10,000 job vacancies in the healthcare sector. Almost 8,500 nursing students graduate in Kerala every year. One can earn a job in Germany by learning the German language and acquiring a government-approved nursing degree. One must have B2 level proficiency in the German language. The ones recruited through NORKA will only need B1 level eligibility and can acquire the B2 level eligibility after reaching Germany.

The students will be interviewed in Kerala and recruited by NORKA. They will be given training in the German language. The certificate attestation, legalisation and other procedures will also start along with this. They will be given 250 euros once they pass levels B1 and B2 in the German language. After passing the B1 level, one can get a visa and go to Germany. The employer in Germany will provide training in B2 level language proficiency and licensing exams in Germany. One has to get the license within one year of reaching Germany. If one fails to pass the test, one can take up to three years to clear the test by presenting a valid reason before the authorities. They can work at care homes until they pass the tests. They will also be given salaries equivalent to Germans.

NORKA Roots CEO K Harikrishnan Namboodiri and Consul General Achim Burkart will exchange the memorandum of understanding on Thursday. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will also attend the function.
