Kathmandu: Former Nepal Prime Minister and CPN-UML chairman K. P. Sharma Oli has been admitted to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital after experiencing episodes of heart palpitations, raising concerns over his health just a day after his arrest.

According to reports, doctors are closely monitoring Oli, who has a history of serious medical conditions following a kidney transplant. He remains under observation, with existing ailments including hydronephrosis, diabetes, hypertension, hypothyroidism, atrial fibrillation and gallstones.

Oli was arrested on Saturday along with former home minister Ramesh Lekhak over their alleged role in suppressing the Gen Z protests held on September 8 and 9 last year. The protests had turned violent, leaving 76 people dead, including several youths.

The arrests came shortly after the newly formed government led by Balendra Shah decided to act on the findings of a probe commission into the protests during its first cabinet meeting.

While Lekhak was produced before a district court and remanded in custody for five days after investigators sought a 10-day remand, Oli attended the court proceedings virtually due to his deteriorating health, according to court officials.
