Thrissur: Former MLA and socialist leader K J George (85) died on Friday night around 10.30 pm. He was suffering from old age ailments.
He had served as MLA in Chalakudy constituency in 1987, 1991 and in Thrissur in 1977.
He started his political career in Congress in 1955. When the Congress party split, he joined Congress (Organisation). In 1977, when Congress (O) and Socialist Party together formed the Janata Party, he represented Thrissur and won election. Later contested in Chalakudy and won again.
In 2011, after the Assembly election, he drew curtains on political life and resorted his time for books.
He was born on December 1, 1934 in Thrissur to Joseph and Thandu couple.
K J Kochappan, K J Rosy, deceased K J Joseph and K J Mary are his siblings.
The funeral will be held at 5 pm on Saturday at Thrissur Lourdes church.
