Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Government has approved fixed wages for drivers of vehicles used by Haritha Karma Sena, a group of trained workers who collect non-biodegradable waste from houses and establishments in local bodies to shredding units for recycling.
The wage expenses will have to be borne by the local bodies. However, the local bodies will have the power to determine the maximum number of days a vehicle is used per month. Further, the drivers are also bound to wear the uniform of Haritha Karma Sena.
There are 33,797 Haritha Karma Sena workers across all districts, and the wages of drivers are covered by either the Haritha Karma Sena or local bodies.
