Muthalapozhi (Thiruvananthapuram): A fishing boat capsized after being hit by a massive wave, resulting in the death of one fisherman and injuries to two others.
The victim, identified as Abraham from Anchuthengu, lost his life in the tragic incident.
Three individuals were rescued from the overturned boat. However, despite efforts to save him at a private hospital in Kazhakkoottam, Abraham succumbed to his injuries.
The two injured fishermen are currently receiving treatment at Chirayinkeezhu Taluk Hospital. Reports indicate that there were four people aboard the boat, owned by Steni, also a resident of Anchuthengu. The incident occurred while the fishermen were returning from a fishing trip.
In a similar incident, another person jumped into the sea and managed to escape.
Local authorities are investigating the cause of the boat capsizing and have urged fishermen to take extra precautions while boating in the river and backwaters.
Since the beginning of 2024, this region has already seen 11 fatalities due to various accidents, with two additional deaths in unrelated incidents.
