Thiruvananthapuram: In an unfortunate incident, a firecracker shop caught fire at Nanniyode here. The owner suffered serious burn injuries after the fire broke out at Sri Muruga Fireworks store on Wednesday morning.

Owner Shibu was admitted to the Medical College hospital with critical injuries. The shed was completely charred in the incident that occured at around 10:30 am. 

Shibu was the only one present at the time of the accident. Police and Fire Force reached the spot to douse the fire.

The license for sale and manufacture of the crackers is in the name of Shibu’s wife Manju. It is learned that crackers above the permitted quantity were there in the shed.

About four years ago also, a firecracker manufacturing unit, licensed to Shibu, had caught fire at Puliyur. One person was charred to death in this incident.
