New Delhi: The SC will conduct the final hearing of the SNC-Lavalin case on Wednesday. The bench headed by Justice Surya Kant will consider the case.
The decade-old case, which placed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in a tough spot in the past, has been listed more than 30 times on the four benches of the apex court in eight years so far. The court considered the case on February 6 last.
The apex court is considering a plea filed by the CBI against the 2017 High Court verdict which acquitted Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Energy Department Secretary K Mohanachandran, and Joint Secretary K A Francis.
The case pertains to awarding a contract to a Canadian company, SNC Lavalin, for the renovation of three hydroelectric projects—Chengulam, Pallivasal, and Panniyar—when Pinarayi Vijayan was the power minister in the then E K Nayanar cabinet between 1996 and 1998. The contract had allegedly led to a loss of Rs 86.25 crore.
