Kanhangad: Two people died in Kasaragod in Kerala due to fever and jaundice. EK Priya (51), assistant superintendent at Kannur Women's Jail, and KM Hemachandra (50), a teacher at Durga Higher Secondary School, Kanhangad, passed away. Priya died at Kannur Government Medical College Hospital, while Hemachandra passed away at Sullia Medical College Hospital.
Priya, a native of Pallikkara, Nileshwaram, had been suffering from fever for several days. Despite feeling better, she went to work on Wednesday but collapsed. Initially admitted to a hospital in Kannur, her condition worsened during the ambulance transfer to Nileshwaram Hospital, after which she was moved to a private hospital in Payyanur. She was then rushed to Kannur Government Medical College Hospital, where she passed away at 6 am on Thursday.
She had previously worked at Thiruvananthapuram Women's Jail and Kanhangad District Jail. Priya is survived by her husband Narayanan Namboothiri and son Priyesh. The funeral will be held on Friday at 10 am at Nileshwaram Pallikkara.
Hemachandra, a resident of Bandadukka, had also been suffering from fever. After his condition deteriorated due to jaundice, he was initially treated at a hospital in Kasaragod, then transferred to a private hospital in Mangaluru and finally to Sullia Medical College Hospital, where he passed away at 2:30 am on Thursday.
He is survived by wife Dinamani and children KH Ganashree and KH Inchara. The funeral took place on Thursday at the family residence in Bandadukka.
