Kochi: As the controversy regarding Munambam continues to fuel up the political circles, Farook College has come out saying that Munambam land is not Waqf property and the college received it as a gift deed. The college has taken the stand that, since they received it as a gift, they have the right to sell it. The college made this assertion before the judicial commission as the hearing on the Munambam land dispute is set to begin next month. Meanwhile, the residents of Munambam have also informed the commission of their stance.

Farook College clarified that the Munambam land is not Waqf property but was received by the college as a gift. Therefore, they claimed full authority to sell the land. This was presented before the chairman of the judicial commission, Justice C.N. Ramachandran Nair, who was appointed by the government to study the Munambam land issue and submit a report.

At the same time, the office-bearers of the Munambam Land Protection Committee submitted the documents in their possession to the commission.

The Waqf Board maintains that the Munambam land is indeed Waqf property. They strongly take the position that this matter needs to be brought to the commission's attention. Apart from the Waqf Board, the government also needs to present its stance on the issue to the commission. Once all positions are clarified, the hearing is expected to begin early next month.

The government has granted a tenure of three months to the Munambam Judicial Commission. The commission aims to complete the mission within this period and submit its report to the government.
