Pulpally: A two-member family had to move out of their small house as termites took control of it. Bindu and her daughter had to leave their home at Kattakandy Colony in Chekadi after termites built a termitarium that continued to grow despite their efforts to remove it.

The house was constructed and given to Bindu and her daughter, Beena, by the panchayat years ago. However, just a few years after they moved in, termites infested the house, making it difficult for them to live there. Despite their daily efforts to remove the termites, the infestation only grew stronger, spreading throughout the veranda, hall, and rooms of the house.

Despite trying various methods to get rid of the termites, including cleaning and scraping, nothing seemed to work. Residents are curious as to how termites can grow in a house with a cement floor. The infestation became so severe that they could no longer enter the house, forcing them to shift to Bindu's mother Mara's house in the same colony. However, this house also suffers from  the ravages of time.  Though the house has concrete roofing, it leaks during the rain. Presently, around eight members live in this small house which has only two rooms. 

Several nearby residents come to Beena's house to light a lamp in the belief that large termites come to the house because of divine presence and perform pujas on special days. They are also urging the authorities to build a new house for Bindu and her daughter to live in.
